Losing Sula

My little pit bull girl, Sula, passed away this week. I could not have imagined how devastating this is. The morning routine. The empty bowl.

She worked her way into an essay about the oil spill at Salon.com.

I miss her more than I could have ever imagined.

Sula knew how to die, and she did so, bravely, with grace and dignity.

Your job now is to let go. Sending you deep peace and healing thoughts of comfort.

I have held dogs in my arms and watched them go beyond into the Light, leaving me behind until another day. You are not alone in your sorrow, and I hope that you will pass through the grief into a space where you will recall her life with joy.

I feel I say it too often but it's meaning remains as strong:

You never know true love until you have been loved by a pit bull. And sadly, you never know true heartbreak until you must tell one goodbye.

Sula will live in your heart forever and always.

Sending you my most sincerely and heartfelt condolences Ken.

What an amazing legacy she leaves behind - countless dog and human lives touched and bettered because of her. Wishing you solace and comfort in knowing what a great dog life you gave her and, through her, so many other dogs.

So sorry to hear about Sula. This has been a rough time for several mutual dog-owner friends including myself...who lost my first greyhound a month ago.
We're thinking of you and the rest of your hounds!! Take care of you!!

I only just came to your books this week and only last night met and fell in love with Sula. I'm so sorry for your loss. But I'm also glad you two found each other. How fortunate for you both that you were able to find and love each other.
Sending you a big ol hug. She was always my favorite of yours. My girl Juno will welcome her to the next life...sorry Ken, hope you are well.
